Utah avoids going 0-3 in the PAC12 by defeating #5 Stanford and improving to 1 – 2.

The Ute quarterback, Travis Wilson, played much better this week. Wilson completed 22 of 33 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns and one interception.

For those who saw last game against the ranked UCLA, you know that the best Utah statistic in this game was the single interception. Wilson threw six interceptions last week and Utah lost by only one score.

James Poole gave Utah a huge boost on the ground, rushing for 111 yards on 22 carries.

Utah’s defense dominated Stanford, holding them to 21 points. The defense also shut down the Cardinals with under a minute to go, stopping them just six yards from the go ahead score. A lesser defense would not have been able to make such a stand. But the Ute’s defense made the plays they needed to make and gave the ball back to their offense, who ended the game in victory formation.

Utah has played a lot better teams this year than people realize. BYU and Utah State are very strong teams and they won both games. The UCLA game, with six interceptions, should have been a blowout but Utah showed their toughness to only lose by one score.

A win against a #5 team is a statement. A statement that says . . .

Football matters in Utah.
