And I Alone

He touched her arm and led her out the door
And by the hand he led her to his car.
They drove away, a night of love in store,
And I alone stood watching from afar.

She curled in his arms and he did warm
Her shoulders, hands, and most of all her heart.
Around those two, the smiles forever swarm;
And I alone stand watching from afar.

He kneeled for her and held aloft a ring.
Engaged they now prepare a date to start
A marriage that will not but gladness bring.
And I alone will stand and watch from far.

A solitary soul, my eyes now burn,
Because I acted not when heart did yearn.

The Returning Hour

Blue eyes give me a glance, a blink; you smile, a happy wrinkle rising on your face, an image of joy that will last a long while, and call me home to share in your embrace, where lips caress and press against my own, entangling bodies, arms, and hands, and fingertips, we pull and join […]

The scar-cracked sculpture’s a looming host A stone sentinel cut from granite grey I never fail to notice his weathered post That gives security during the […]
